THE VIEW

Mood as source of inspiration.

I had visited this location several times prior to creating this photograph. However, each time the mood, which was made by the light, colors, did not give me inspiration to create a photograph. I was waiting for something particular.

One time this special time came. When I arrived at the spot where I took this picture, the light had taken a soft and almost grey quality. The sky was covered with thick clouds and the grass looked dry so it became one tonality with the whole picture. I understood this mood which I waited for such a long time was just right. I therefore set to work immediately, inspired by the light and colors. The problem was finding the proper composition, and I struggled with that during the entire shoot. I wanted to show only the silhouette of the skyline of Manhattan. And making emphasis on the binoculars. I created a few photographs with different composition.

In the studio I worked hard looking at each picture in detail, trying to decide which composition best expressed the mood of that moment. This photograph was chosen because it best expressed how light, color and composition worked together at the same time.
